After contemplating it for some weeks, I finally hacked away at my Yucca pendula, Soft leaf yucca. It had really looked miserable for several months due to the infestation of Yucca Plant Bugs that feed on and live in the leaves. After copious amounts of Neem Oil, the insects were gone, leaving behind the telltale signs of their occupancy: yellowed leaves and myriad brown splotches.
So, this morning, I did it! At first I wasn’t sure how to go about it, but quickly found that the best way to cut away the leaves was piece by piece until I got to the trunk … and can you believe I did it without shoes or a shirt and did not get seriously injured!? All the cutting should promote new growth, and I even found a new start protruding from beside the main plant. It really opens up that area of the garden, so hopefully the dogs will start using that as their runway instead of around my cacti to the opposite side.
