Second session: John Trager Curator of the Desert Collections at the Huntington Botanical Gardens: Succulents and Associated Flora of Northern Namibia.

Great travelogue intro: photos of fauna, ethnological description, and natural resources.

The flora of N. Namibia has more affinity towards the flora of Eastern Namibia in comparison to that of the south - baobabs, legumes, kalanchoe thickets and solitary specimens, caudiciforms, cyphostemma species that shed to keep lichens off the photosynthetic stems, commiphora with their beautiful fruits, inland weltwitschia species, and of course aloes.

Many of the N. Namibian aloes are better suited for Texas winters (although may require an unheated greenhouse) than the more common S. African varieties. There are also a large number of succulent bulbs and more common genera like Adenia, Senecio, and Euphorbia. The dry tropics are quite interesting, but I need Cactaceae.
