On the way back to Las Vegas from the Grand Canyon, our helicopter driver took us to a desert gas station - a gravel pad in the middle of nowhere with fuel tanks. There were several of these throughout the area - some with semi-tankers (as seen in the last photo) and others with buried tanks. There was a wider variety of cacti and succulents here than there was at the Grand Canyon including:
Yucca brevifolia (Joshua Tree)
Yucca schidigera (Mohave yucca)
Ferocactus acanthoides (Compass barrel)
Cylindropuntia whipplei (Whipple cholla)
Opuntia polyacantha var. erinacea (Grizzly bear or Mohave prickly pear)
As we reboarded and made our way back to Las Vegas we even saw wild mustangs. Maybe I’ll throw in a shot of them later … Again, I will share more photos of the cactus/succulent plants throughout the week.
